Fire on 27th floor of Birmingham's tallest residential building
Published: 8th Jun 2012 22:55:03
A flat fire on the 27th floor of Birmingham's tallest residential building led to two people being taken to hospital.
Sixty people left the Beetham Tower site on Holloway Circus in the city centre as a result of the fire. Smoke affected the 27th and 28th floors of the 39-storey building.
A man with minor burns and a woman were taken to hospital after inhaling smoke.
Firefighters were called to the electrical fire at just after 17:30.
Two fire engines from Highgate and another two from Ladywood were deployed.
The 399ft (121m) Beetham Tower, which opened in 2006, is the second tallest building in Birmingham, behind the BT Tower, and one of the 30 tallest residential buildings in the UK.
