A woman who was killed in a "targeted attack" in Bolton, Greater Manchester, has been named by police.

Kelly Davies, 31, was found in Queen's Street, Farnworth, at about 13:00 BST on Monday.

A post-mortem examination provisionally found she died from stab wounds. Police said they were also waiting toxicology results.

Det Insp Chris Bridge said officers were "working around the clock" to establish what happened.

He said: "There will understandably be anxiety in the local community as people hear about the death of this young woman, but I would like to try and offer some reassurance to those who are concerned for their safety that we do not believe this was a random attack.

"However, there will be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days so I would urge anyone with concerns to approach an officer and speak to them, in confidence if needed.

"Our inquiry remains focused on trying to locate the person or people responsible and I would also appeal to anyone who has information to come forward."
