Man charged after stinger used to stop car on motorway
Published: 3rd Jun 2012 19:30:31
A man has been charged after police used a stinger to halt a car which travelled the wrong way along the M25 and M26 motorways.
A police car suffered minor damage during the incident in Surrey and Kent in the early hours of Saturday.
Christopher Michael Jones, 26, of Rhyl, Denbighshire, north Wales, has been charged with dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen.
He is also accused of driving without insurance and breaching bail.
The stinger, a spiked device used to puncture tyres, was deployed after the car had travelled about 14 miles along the roads.
Surrey Police said the man had been remanded in custody to appear at North Surrey Magistrates' Court on Monday.
A 21-year-old man, also from Rhyl, has been released on police bail.
