A woman whose dead baby was found by workmen renovating an historic house six years ago has been arrested.

The newborn baby boy's body was found in a bin bag in the grounds of 350-year-old Howroyd Hall at Barkisland near Halifax in July 2006.

Angela Owen, 46, who has been missing since 2004, was arrested after an appeal on the BBC Crimewatch programme.

Police said she was also being questioned about a series of frauds totalling more than £250,000.

Ms Owen was arrested in Avon and Somerset in the early hours of Friday and is expected to be taken to West Yorkshire for questioning later.

She had lived at Howroyde Hall before the body was discovered but the last reported sighting of her before her arrest was in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset in June 2004.

A post-mortem examination at the time the body was found revealed the baby was newborn and born full-term and could have been at the property for up to a year before being found.

Police initially said there were no suspicious circumstances, but since a review of the case earlier this year officers have treated the death as suspicious.
