Firefighters remain at the scene of an explosion which led to a large fire in a Greater Manchester factory.

The blast happened at Multi Roof Building Products at Stansfield Mill, Calderbrook Road, Littleborough, at about 13:00 BST on Monday.

Two factory workers were taken to hospital and thick black smoke could be seen for miles around after a number of silos of solvent caught fire.

The fire service received more than 100 calls reporting the blaze.

Crews were still fighting the fire at 08:00 on Tuesday.

Ten fire crews were dealing with the fire at its height, but it was brought under control by about 19:00.

The incident was later scaled down and three fire engines and one aerial platform were at the scene overnight, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.

People were advised to keep their windows and doors closed to reduce breathing in the fumes.

Of the two men taken to hospital, one man was treated for burns to an arm while the other was contaminated with bitumen.

Calderbrook Road in Littleborough was closed in both directions between the Clough Road junction and the Hare Hill Road junction.
