Published: 28th May 2012 15:33:20
The deaths of about 100 fish in a pond in Merthyr Tydfil is being investigated by Environment Agency Wales.
An angler spotted the dead gudgeon in the water at Dowlais Top on Sunday.
The agency has taken samples from the pond and fisheries experts are trying to locate the source of the problem.
An agency spokesman said there were more than six species of fish in the pond but only gudgeon had been affected so far.
The affected water is at Middle Pond in Dowlais Top.
The spokesman added: "We're very grateful to the person who reported this."
The agency said anyone who sees fish in distress should call its incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.
