Man, 55, dies after taxi collision in Ashton-under-Lyne

A 55-year-old man run over by a taxi in Greater Manchester on Saturday has died in hospital.

Police were called to Albion Way at the junction with Henrietta Street in Ashton-under-Lyne shortly after 15:00 BST after reports of a road accident.

The pedestrian was struck by a blue Ford Transit van heading in the direction of Ikea.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries but died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Anyone who witnessed the incident has been asked to contact Greater Manchester Police.
