William McTaggart painting stolen from Perth framers

An original watercolour by Scottish impressionist William McTaggart worth £3,000 has been stolen from a framers in Perth.

Tayside Police said the artwork was taken from The Picture Frame Maker sometime between 17:00 on 17 May and Saturday 19 May at 11:00.

Officers are looking for two men seen in the Skinnergate area at the time.

The picture of a landscape with two figures measures 20ins by 16ins and was in an old, gold-coloured frame.

The first man being sought was described as 40-49 year old, 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build, with short shaved brown hair.

He was wearing a large, heavy workers jacket with a luminous stripe on it.

The second man was also described as 40-49, 5ft 5ins tall, of average build, with grey hair.

He was wearing a mid-thigh length, dark navy jacket, possibly with a furry collar.

William McTaggart worked around the end of the 19th Century and there are several of his works on display at the National Galleries of Scotland.
