Published: 24th May 2012 13:58:21
A man and a woman were seriously injured when their van plunged 250m down a ravine after hitting an embankment in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
The incident happened on the Treherbert side of Rhigos Mountain at about 04:00 BST.
The man was rescued by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and taken to hospital, while the woman was airlifted by an RAF Sea King helicopter.
The fire service said both casualties sustained serious multiple injuries.
The RAF airlifted the woman, aged in her 20s, to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
The Sea King from Chivenor in Devon was called out at 05:00 BST because of the precarious position of the vehicle.
A mountain rescue team was also involved in the rescue.
The Welsh Ambulance Service said it sent a rapid response vehicle and three ambulances to the scene.
The injured injured man was taken by road to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.
Fire crews from Treorchy, Tonypandy, Merthyr, Malpas and Barry were called to the scene.
