Duke of Kent honours crash death RNLI crewman John Robertson
Published: 24th May 2012 11:22:22
A special ceremony is to honour of one of the original members of the Kippford Lifeboat Station who died in a car accident in 2010.
RNLI President the Duke of Kent will make a presentation to the widow and son of the late John Robertson.
The 63-year-old died when his car crashed off the Dumfries to Dalbeattie road.
He had served with the Kippford lifeboat for 43 years, as a former crew member, mechanic and station deputy.
The Duke of Kent will present a posthumous certificate of service to Mrs Myrna Robertson, and her son John.
The duke will then travel on to Kirkcudbright lifeboat station, which is marking its 150th anniversary.
On Friday he will be at Portpatrick, where the following day, the town's new Tamar class lifeboat will be officially named - the John Buchanan Barr.
The state of the art vessel was funded by a £2.6m legacy left by Catherine Barr, who died in 2008, and wanted the vessel named after her late husband.
The duke will end the day at Stranraer where he will present mechanic and station deputy, Eric McCune, with a long service badge to mark 30 years with the local lifeboat.
