A man who repeatedly stabbed his former partner in front of her children in Aberdeen must wait to learn his fate.

Gareth Kerr, 45, earlier admitted stabbing former girlfriend Gail McCann on the head and body during the attack in Strathmore Drive and Esk Place.

The mother was left severely injured, scarred for life and permanently impaired during the incident in 2009.

Lord Bannatyne, at the High Court in Edinburgh, said he needed more information.

Ms McCann suffered 25 stab wounds to her hands and arms, three further wounds to her head and another three to her neck during the attack.

Kerr, who had originally been accused of attempted murder, was said by psychiatrists to be liable to uncontrollable outbursts of anger resulting in "behaviour explosions".

The case was continued until 16 May.
