Human bones have been found by a dog walker on a disused railway line on Merseyside.

They were discovered in an area thought to be an old fire pit on an embankment in Fazakerley on Saturday.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said a pathologist and an anthropologist confirmed the bones, found close to Blackthorn Road, were human.

Police cordoned off the area while forensic experts investigated the discovery.
