Flood alerts at Wye, Usk, Gower and Swansea Bay due to high tides
Published: 8th May 2012 08:45:13
The Environment Agency Wales says there are currently three flood alerts in force in Wales on Tuesday.
It warns of possible flooding on the Wye estuary, Swansea Bay and the Gower coast as well as the Usk estuary due to predicted high tides.
The alert along the Gower peninsula is between Pontardulais and Llantwit Major.
Heavy rain fell on Monday, with up to 23mm over a 24 hour period in some places.
A further update is due to be issued after the next high tide on Tuesday morning.
Heavy rain on Bank Holiday Monday included 22mm falling at Capel Curig in Conwy, 23mm at Lake Vyrnwy in Powys and 18mm recorded falling in St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan.
BBC Wales weather presenter Behnaz Akhgar said most of the showers had cleared by Tuesday morning.
But on Wednesday, the rain is set to return.
"We are set for a wet and windy day, but it shouldn't feel as cold as the weekend rain as we have a milder airmass.
"The rain will be heavy at times."
She said Thursday was likely to bring heavy rain and strong winds, with an early warning for the south and east of Wales.
