Police are appealing for help after the death of a man whose body was found on railway tracks near Bridgend station.

He is still to be formally identified, but is thought to be 23 and from Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan.

He was found by a train driver on Saturday at 08:21 BST, and British Transport Police are examining how he came to be on the line.

Officers want people who were in the area from 08:00 to call them on 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Chf Insp Sandra England said: "We are treating the death as unexplained at this stage and are currently working to piece together the hours and minutes prior to the man's death, and to look and why and how he ended up on the tracks.

"I am interested to hear from anyone who was at the station from 08:00 on Saturday morning who may have seen the man, or may be able to provide any other information that may be able to help us with our enquiries.

The initial inquiry led to train service delays on Saturday.
