A 72-year-old man has been attacked and beaten in his County Antrim home.

He was assaulted at his home at Doagh Road, Newtownabbey. He returned to his house at 17:40 BST on Saturday 5 May to find a stranger inside.

The intruder beat the pensioner, who suffered a suspected broken ankle and cuts to his face in the attack.

Police said the attacker was aged in his 30's and was wearing a camouflage green hooded top, dark blue jeans and a baseball cap with a yellow peak.

He was seen on the Doagh Road shortly before the attack carrying a blue-coloured carry-out bag with alcohol inside.

They have appealed for information.
