A man serving 12 years for armed robbery who absconded from a prison in Surrey has been returned to jail after he handed himself in to police.

Surrey Police said Graham Richard Farrell, 48, walked into a Kent police station about 20:00 BST on Friday.

Officers returned him to HMP Coldingley in Bisley where he was serving time for a series of armed robberies and other violent offences in London.

He failed to return to the jail after a one-day release licence on 27 April.

Farrell, who was said to have connections with Kent and south-east London, was last seen getting on a London Victoria-bound train at Swanley in Kent on Friday

Members of the public were warned not to approach him directly.
