Police investigate death of care home resident in Rusholme
Published: 4th May 2012 18:34:00
Police are investigating the death of a care home resident in Manchester.
Ivan Emmanuel Campbell, 73, a resident at Victoria Nursing Home, Anson Road, in Rusholme, was admitted to hospital on 16 April and died the following day.
A post-mortem examination found he died from internal injuries. The coroner has been informed.
Greater Manchester Police said, after an examination of the private nursing home, they had concluded that the injuries were non-accidental.
The police are working with the owner of the home and its staff, Manchester City Council, the NHS, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust and the Care Quality Commission as part of the investigation.
Det Ch Insp Joanne Rawlinson said: "Collectively we have carried out the necessary risk assessments in relation to the remaining residents and are working together to minimise any potential risk.
"I am acutely aware of the care needs of the residents and Greater Manchester Police, together with our partners, are working to minimise the intrusion into their daily routine.
"We have updated the relatives of all residents, who are supportive of both our investigation and the overall care provided to their loved ones by the staff at the home."
The owners of the care home have so far been unavailable for comment.
