Signs on A9 for Aviemore homes site 'distracting'
Published: 2nd May 2012 15:44:28
A major house builder has lost its appeal against an order to remove large signs from the A9 in the Highlands.
The Cairngorms National Park had objected to two advertising boards at Tulloch Homes' High Burnside development at Aviemore.
Tulloch appealed to the Scottish government, but a government-appointed planning official has dismissed it.
The reporter said the signs could be a potential distraction for the motorists and other road users.
Transport Scotland had also raised concerns about the signs.
The reporter said the boards were large and close to the A9.
She added: "As for public safety, the purpose of the sign boards is to attract the attention of the people using the A9.
"In order to do this they must necessarily be distracting.
"This is confirmed by Transport Scotland, who consider that the sign boards cause an unnecessary distraction to drivers, to the detriment of road safety."
Tulloch said the signs were needed for directing visitors and construction traffic.
But the reporter said the site had been in operation for more than three years and building crews should be familiar with how to access it.
