More than 90 candidates are already home and dry in the local council elections, according to an analysis of candidate numbers.

Some candidates have been returned unopposed before voting day on 3 May.

Around 1,200 seats will be contested in 21 of Wales' 22 local authorities.

Elections are not taking place Anglesey where the Welsh government has appointed commissioners to run the council after years of political infighting.

An analysis by the Press Association news agency found 93 candidates were returned unopposed: 22 for Plaid Cymru, 18 for Labour, 16 for the Conservatives, six Liberal Democrats and 31 others.

Voters had until the end of Tuesday to join the electoral register.
