Man dead in Errol sheltered home fire
Published: 7th Apr 2012 11:58:58
A man has died after a blaze broke out at a Perthshire sheltered housing complex.
Tayside Fire and Rescue were called to Viewlands Place in Errol at 05:00.
A 74-year-old man who was in the building was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but died a short time later.
Tayside Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a investigation was taking place.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "Upon arrival the incident commander was informed that there was a person still within the flat and an additional appliance and ambulance were requested.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property, quickly located and removed an elderly male.
"Despite the best efforts of firefighters and Scottish Ambulance Service personnel, the casualty succumbed to the effects of fire."
The fire, which was contained within the flat, was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
