Handbag 'stolen' from dead woman in Manchester street

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a handbag from a woman as she lay dead on a road in Manchester.

Sarwari Ashraf, 62, from Longsight, was killed crossing Upper Brook Street during rush hour on Thursday.

Her handbag went missing from the scene, which is near Hathersage Avenue.

A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving has been bailed until May, pending further inquiries.

Police believe the woman may have been a victim of a hit-and-run incident.
