Ayr United fan faces Dumfries offensive singing charge
Published: 2nd Apr 2012 14:44:41
A football fan has been charged under the new offensive behaviour act following the weekend match between Queen of the South and Ayr United.
Stephen Dunlop, 23, from Carbieston Avenue, Coylton, is the first person to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court under the act.
He was accused of repeatedly singing sectarian songs at Palmerston Park in Dumfries on Saturday.
The case was continued without plea for a month and Mr Dunlop was allowed bail.
Sheriff George Jamieson rejected a bid by the procurator fiscal to ban him from football grounds throughout the UK and to have him report to his local police station when Ayr United were playing.
