Southampton park attacker stabs man in face
Published: 2nd Apr 2012 07:16:49
A man has been stabbed in the face in a suspected "random and unprovoked attack" in a Hampshire park, police have said.
He was stabbed in an "extremely unusual incident" in the Millbrook area of Southampton by a man who was hooded.
The victim needed surgery following the attack in the early hours of Sunday as he walked through the park.
High-visibility patrols have now been introduced in the area and police are appealing for witnesses.
Police said the attacker was riding an old mountain bike and is described as white, aged 22 to 23, about 5ft 10ins and slim.
He spoke with a local accent and wore a grey hooded top with the hood up and dark tracksuit bottoms.
Det Con Vicky Boddy, of Southampton CID, said: "This is an extremely unusual incident, which we are treating as a random and unprovoked attack.
"This is a concerning incident but these circumstances are very rare."
