A woman found dead on a road in Manchester has been named by police.

Sarwari Ashraf, 62, from the Longsight area, was killed crossing Upper Brook Street in Longsight on Thursday at about 09:50 BST.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they were investigating the incident as "a fail-to-stop collision".

A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving has been released until May pending further inquiries.

Police are appealing for a man who picked up Ms Ahraf's shoes, and possibly her black handbag which they have been unable to trace, to contact them.

The police have released an image of the man they are keen to speak to.

Sgt Lee Westhead said: "This man has picked up the victim's shoes and may also have picked up her handbag in good faith.

"We would urge him to contact the police as soon as possible."

A 47-year-old man, who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder, was earlier released without charge.
