Wigan wheelie bin body: Steven Rourke strangled
Published: 28th Mar 2012 12:54:20
A man whose body was found in a wheelie bin had been strangled, post-mortem tests have revealed.
The body of Steven Rourke, 26, was found by two men walking on land off Bickershaw Lane in Wigan on Sunday.
Three people aged 19, 21 and 24 were arrested on suspicion of murder and are being questioned by police.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the provisional verdict was death by strangulation, but the pathologist is carrying out more tests.
Tributes have been paid to Mr Rourke, who was also known as Steven Lynch.
In a statement, his family said: "Steven was a lovely young man who was always happy to help others.
"He was well known in the Bickershaw area, where he was well liked as Steven never saw any bad in anyone.
"He had a keen interest in music and loved his family, who were very proud of him.
"He particularly loved his young nephew and niece and the family will miss him so very much.
"At 26 years old Steven was taken from us far too young.
"We would also like say thank you to the men who found Steven's body and alerted the police."
