Lisa Head death: Bomb expert's colleagues praised
Published: 27th Mar 2012 11:46:35
A coroner has commended colleagues of a soldier for risking their lives to help her after she was injured as she tried to detonate a bomb in Afghanistan.
Capt Lisa Head, 29, of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was serving with the Royal Logistic Corps when she was fatally hurt in a blast in April 2011.
She lost her limbs in the explosion and died the next day at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth NHS Hospital.
Capt Head was the second British female soldier to be killed in Afghanistan.
At Bradford Coroner's Court, Coroner Paul Marks said it was "testament to her own physical stamina" and the quality of care she had received that she had survived for as long as she did with the "catastrophic injuries".
He also praised colleagues who went to her aid after the explosion.
