Published: 15th Mar 2012 12:25:08
A 24-year-old soldier has appeared in court charged with the murder of his girlfriend in Greater Manchester.
Ian Lowe, who serves with the 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, is accused of killing 24-year-old Leanne McNuff.
She was found at her home in Mellor Street, Droylsden, on Sunday. A post-mortem examination found she had died of multiple stab wounds.
The soldier has been remanded to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Friday.
He spoke spoke only to confirm his name and address at the brief hearing at Tameside Magistrates' Court.
In a statement, Ms McNuff's parents Margaret and James said: "Leanne was a beautiful, kind-hearted and generous girl, who lived and breathed for her four-year-old son Jaden, who in turn idolised and adored his mummy.
"Leanne had a great sense of humour, with lovely manners, and was loved by everyone who knew her.
