Derby County to apologise for fans' Doughty songs

Derby County are to issue a formal apology to Nottingham Forest after fans sang offensive songs about their late owner Nigel Doughty.

Small sections of home supporters sang the chants about the former Forest chairman during Derby's 1-0 win at Pride Park on Tuesday night.

Mr Doughty was found dead at his home in Lincolnshire last month, aged 54.

Derby boss Nigel Clough said the club would investigate the chants and issue an apology.

He said: "The club will do that [apologise], we'll do that officially with the club and Tom Glick [Derby chief executive].

"With regards to an investigation being launched, I'm sure we will look at it in the next few days."

Both Derby County and Nottingham Forest supporters have condemned the chants on social networking sites.

The Rams had scored the game's winner four minutes into injury time after the visitors had striker Marcus Tudgay sent off.
