Lorry crash closes M1 in Derbyshire

The M1 has been closed in both directions in Derbyshire after a lorry collided with several vehicles and hit the central reservation.

Police were called to the motorway at Sutton Scarsdale at about 0130 GMT.

Five people were taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital, two with serious injuries, police said.

The M1 remains closed between junctions 29 and 29a southbound and junctions 29 and 30 northbound.

The HGV was travelling southbound but broke through the the central barrier and ended up on the northbound carriageway.

Delays of up to an hour have been reported.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact Derbyshire Police.
