Huge fire in five-storey Edinburgh building
Published: 23rd Feb 2011 13:21:03
At least 50 firefighters are tackling a huge blaze in a five storey building in Edinburgh.
A man and a woman have been rescued by turntable ladder from the top floor of the building in Buccleuch Street and are being checked by ambulance crews.
The fire, which started just after 1100 GMT in a flat above the Meadow Bar, is still well alight.
Seven fire engines and a turntable ladder are at the scene and the road has been closed.
It is understood that two people in a flat on Buccleuch Street woke to find smoke filling their room.
The fire quickly spread down to the Meadow Bar's lounge and function suite.
