Emergency 999 calls cannot be made from 88 telephone lines in the Kinbrace area of Sutherland, police have said.

Northern Constabulary said BT had been notified and it was hoped the service would be restored by the afternoon.

An extra police patrol has been provided for the area affected and people have been asked to contact their local station in an emergency.

The failure comes about a week after a problem with making 999 calls affected 985 phone lines on the Western Isles.
