A seven-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after he was injured in a car crash in Cheshire.

The boy was struck by a car on Blackbrook Avenue in Padgate, Warrington, near the Jolly Falstaff pub at about 1800 GMT on Wednesday.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Alder Hey hospital, where he is said to be seriously ill but stable.

Police said two cars were involved in the collision but neither driver was injured and no arrests were made.

One car was a Citroen driven by a 56-year-old woman from Wigan, and the other was a Nissan Almera driven by a 28-year-old local woman.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is being urged to contact police.
