Actor Dominic West, best known for starring in cult US crime series The Wire, has been lined up to direct an episode of BBC daytime drama Moving On.

The British-born star, who has already directed an episode of The Wire, has not previously directed in the UK.

Life On Mars actor John Simm and Hustle star Robert Glenister are set to appear in the daytime drama Moving On.

The series is made up of 10 stand-alone episodes, all linked by the common theme of life's upheavals.

The series, which is being filmed in Liverpool, has been written by a combination of new and established writers.

The series was created by Emmy and Bafta award-winning writer Jimmy McGovern.

Producer Colin McKeown said: "This new series will continue to explore the thorny contemporary issues of Alzheimer's, drug co-dependency, adoption, religion and special needs within the community, along with additional family issues such as sibling rivalry, loyalty and friendship."
