Police are hunting a "predator" after a 21-year-old woman was indecently assaulted in Glasgow city centre.

The woman and her 19-year-old female friend were followed to a cashpoint in Wellington Street where she was attacked at about 0340 GMT on Thursday.

The man ran off after her friend intervened. The woman did not require hospital treatment.

The suspect was described as Asian, aged 20 to 25, about 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, with black spiked hair.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a black leather jacket, grey polo shirt, dark blue jeans and spoke only in broken English.

Police said the two women realised they were being followed while walking from Gordon Street to get cash from an ATM.

When they reached Wellington Street the man was standing waiting in front of them.

He then approached the women, grabbed the 21-year-old and indecently assaulted her.

Her friend tried to intervene and managed to call for help before the man ran off in the direction of West Regent Street.

Det Con Alyson Bolton, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This was a terrifying attack on this young woman which could have been much worse had she and her friend not bravely fought off this predator.

"I would ask anyone who was in the Gordon Street, Hope Street, Wellington Street area of Glasgow city centre on Wednesday morning around the time of the assault to contact me as soon as possible."
