Denbighshire, Wrexham gritting teams out in force
Published: 22nd Dec 2010 10:59:16
All gritting teams across Wrexham and Denbighshire have been in operation following heavy snow overnight.
Denbighshire council said its 12 teams were doing a "sterling job", and the worst affected area was Denbigh with about eight inches (20cm).
In Wrexham, the county's entire gritting fleet spread 200 tonnes of grit on priority routes overnight.
Teams using specially-adapted quad bikes with ploughs are clearing pavements in the town centre.
A spokeswoman for Wrexham council said refuse collections were going ahead.
In Denbighshire, all roads are open, a spokeswoman said.
She added that the local had just under 3,000 tonnes of grit, which "is enough for 20-plus days under normal conditions".
She added: "We're trying to be as "selective as possible".
Across north Wales, more than 100 schools are closed.
