Police move probe miles from gym shooting site
Published: 3rd Nov 2010 17:05:54
Police probing a shooting outside an Edinburgh gym have appealed for help from a community several miles from the crime scene.
Robert Kelbie, 27, was injured in the attack in the car park of Bannatyne's Health Club in Newcraighall.
He was taken to hospital following the incident at 1920 BST on 20 October but later discharged himself.
A Vauxhall Vectra was seen in the area at the time and a burnt-out Vectra was found later in the west of the city.
Detectives are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.
Two weeks on from the shooting, police are returning to West Bryson Road in Polwarth, near the spot where the abandoned car was discovered, to talk to residents.
Officers want to speak to people who may have seen anything suspicious or who saw two people running from the area on the evening of the attack.
A police incident vehicle will be stationed on West Bryson Road and Lothian and Borders Police officers will be on patrol to speak to passers-by.
Anyone who may have information is being urged to come forward.
Ch Insp Murray Dykes said: "Members of the public such as dog walkers and joggers who may regularly frequent the area may have vital information that is of use to the inquiry team and it is those who we are targeting with this appeal.
"There's been a good response but we know we need to go out and speak to people in the community.
"It's often the small detail people think is unimportant that is very important to us."
