Two men from Somerset have been charged with public order offences following an anti-nuclear demonstration outside Plymouth's Royal Naval base.

More than 100 people took part in the protest, which began before 0600 GMT.

The main road outside the dockyard was closed to traffic for about two hours and workers had to go in on foot.

A 28-year-old man from Taunton and a 52-year-old man from Shepton Mallet are due to appear before Plymouth magistrates on 11 November.

The protest was organised by the campaign group Trident Ploughshares which said it was opposed to the UK's Trident nuclear weapons' system.

Devonport naval base in Plymouth is used to carry out repairs to the Trident submarines.
