Northumbria Probation Trust

Our workforce

Our staff

We recognise that our staff are key to achieving our goals of protecting the public and reducing reoffending. Our staff continue to deliver excellence in all we do and work to continuously improve our services to victims, communities and offenders.

Employee engagement

Our staff have the opportunity to engage in deciding how we do things through our Progress through People initiative. We attribute many of the improvements we have made and our high performance results to the efforts and suggestions of our workforce.

Our achievements include:

  • Recognition as one of the top 10 employers of choice in a survey carried out by Capita.
  • Achieving IIP champion status, an accolade only attained by one per cent of organisations across the country.
  • Receiving the EFQM recognised for excellence 4* rating

Our approach to diversity.. about recognising, valuing, respecting and celebrating differences between individuals as well as utilising their skills, talents and experiences to the full.

We employ approximately 580 staff, 29% are male and 71% female. 3.2% of our workforce is comprised of staff from black and minority ethnic communities (the regional profile of the BME population is 4.65%).

Northumbria’s equality steering group includes representatives from our three staff support groups, covering BME staff, LGBT staff, and those with disability. This helps to ensure services are provided in a way that reflects and is appropriate to the needs of the diverse communities we serve.

We have an exciting range of career opportunities. Whether you work directly with offenders or are part of our business services team, you will be playing an important part in achieving our goals.

We also have a volunteers scheme and believe that volunteers can make a unique contribution to our work.
